Here are some of the most promising new innovations in truck technologies 2023 expects to see.
HYDROGEN FUEL CELL TRUCKS
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are a type of electric vehicle that uses a fuel cell instead of a battery to power the motor. They work by fuel cells converting the chemical energy of hydrogen into electricity, which can then be used to power the electric motor.
There are currently some hydrogen-powered trucks on the road, but there aren’t many hydrogen refueling stations yet, making this a widespread practice hard. It’s likely that in 2023 there will be more advances toward hydrogen-fueled trucks and cleaner energy trucks overall.
AUTONOMOUS TRUCKS
Many of the tests that are currently being done for autonomous trucks are still supervised so that someone can take over in case of an emergency. Even though autonomous technology is being developed it’s still important to have a licensed CDL driver in the truck. This means that truck drivers are still very necessary for the industry.
DRIVER-ASSIST SYSTEMS
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System is a popular tool that drivers are getting installed in their trucks. This tool better supports drivers and helps them avoid more collisions. ADAS can include the following:
Lane Keep Assist: This warns the driver with signals and a “nudge” of the steering wheel if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane.
Blind-spot monitoring: Alerts the driver if they signal that they’re about to change lanes and there is another vehicle in their blind spot.
Rear cross-traffic alert: Warns drivers if they are about to back out of a parking spot and other vehicles are approaching.
Pedestrian detection: This can provide a warning and/or apply the brakes if a person is detected in the road ahead of the vehicle.
TRUCK TRACKING SYSTEMS
Vehicle tracking: This involves monitoring of cars, trucks, equipment, and other assets in transportation using sensors such as GPS technology and onboard diagnostics (OBD).
Predictive Maintenance: Sensors record and organize information so that AI can determine the cause of maintenance issues before sending technicians into the field. This results in faster repairs and reduced downtime.
