TIPS FOR NEW TRUCK DRIVERS

If you’re about to embark on your first trip as a licensed professional truck driver, you may feel a bit nervous. Don’t worry! That’s completely natural. Truck drivers each have their own tips and tricks of the road, so we’ve compiled five useful tips to help you conquer your nerves and start your successful career as a professional truck driver

BRING FOOD OR MAKE MEALS ON THE ROAD
You never know when hunger will strike, so remember to always eat a healthy and nutritious meal before you hit the road. In addition, you can save money in the long run by bringing your meals or even making your meals on the road. From packing a bagged lunch to investing in an oven-roasting bag, you can have delicious meals throughout your entire trip.

EXERCISE REGULARLY
You know that sitting and driving can be relaxing. Make sure you exercise before and after your trips, even if only for 15-30 minutes at a time. Exercising and engaging in physical fitness in some form will improve your overall health and energize you as well.

SAFETY FIRST. ALWAYS!
No matter what your situation may be, remember to always play it safe for yourself and others on the road or around your vehicle. Whether you are backing up in a parking lot or taking a fast turn on a busy road, always think of safety first. As a professional truck driver, safety is your first concern at all points during a trip.

LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR COMPANY
There’s much more to a trucking company than driving. Explore what your company has to offer and see if there’s area for advancement, other departments you are interested and meet new individuals throughout your company.

ALWAYS BE ON TIME
Punctuality is one of the most important factors (after safety!) of a trip. If you show up late for a pickup or arrive far too late for a delivery, a variety of businesses could be
affected. Not only will your paycheck be a bit less than the previous week, you may have also negatively affected the businesses waiting for your delivery and arrival.

As you gain more mileage and experience as a professional truck driver, you’ll come up with your own tips and tricks to improve your performance and enjoyment of driving.
